N like Nigelle
Nigella (Nigella sativa), also known as Black Cumin and often referred to as “the Pharaohs’ gold”, is especially effective for skin prone to imperfections and inflammation, thanks to its naturally soothing properties.
Where is it found?
Nigella is native to the Mediterranean Basin and the Middle East. Its seeds are processed through supercritical CO₂ extraction*, a method that ensures both purity and optimal concentration of bioactive compounds.
*The supercritical CO₂ extraction process guarantees the integrity of the active molecules and their maximum efficacy.
What are its cosmetic benefits?
- Anti-inflammatory: rich in Thymoquinone, Nigella acts by reducing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, thereby helping to alleviate redness, irritation, and inflammation commonly associated with acne.
- Purifying: its antimicrobial and cleansing properties contribute to limiting bacterial proliferation, fostering a clearer and healthier complexion.
- Anti-aging & antioxidant: Nigella extract, standardized in Thymoquinone, enhances skin elasticity. Its antioxidant compounds protect against free radicals, thereby helping to slow down premature skin aging.
Does it have other known uses?
Traditionally, Nigella seeds have been used in medicinal contexts for the treatment of respiratory and gastrointestinal disorders. Beyond these therapeutic applications, they are also valued as a culinary spice, particularly in Indian cuisine.
