Feel good in your body for the summer

Feel good in your body thanks to the acid-base balance.

Because feeling good in your body also comes from within, we'll tell you all about the famous acid-alkaline balance and how to regulate it.

What is the acid-alkaline balance?

It refers to the balance between acidity and alkalinity levels in our bodies. The main factor influencing this balance is our diet, as each food has a different acidity and alkalinity level. Therefore, there are two major categories of foods: acidifying foods and alkalizing foods, which should be consumed in proper proportions.

What are acidifying foods and alkalizing foods?

Alkalizing foods:
Vegetables (cucumber, broccoli, carrot, celery, tomato, ...)
Fruits (banana, apple, pineapple, grapes, ...)
Nuts, seeds, cold-pressed vegetable oils, quinoa.

Acidifying foods:
Animal proteins, cereals, and legumes...

How is the acid-alkaline balance measured?

The acid-alkaline balance is measured using pH. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14, with 7 being considered neutral.
Below 7, the pH is acidic (acidosis).
Above 7, it is alkaline (alkalosis).
Thus, alkalizing foods raise the pH while acidifying foods lower it.
It is possible to measure one's pH level using urine test strips.

What are the consequences of an imbalanced acid-alkaline balance?

An imbalanced acid-alkaline balance can cause daily discomfort and lead to migraines, fatigue, or in some cases, arthritis.
Typically, it is primarily an excessively acidic pH that manifests as fatigue, brittle hair, heartburn, or skin problems.

Therefore, there are good practices to adopt in order to avoid these issues, and it all starts with your plate!

Good practices to restore balance:

- Start your day with freshly squeezed lemon juice. Alkalizing, it promotes pH balance.
- Compose your meals with acidifying or alkalizing foods according to your pH rebalancing needs.
- Ideally, your plate should be composed of 50% fruits or vegetables.
- Reduce the consumption of salt and foods that are particularly high in salt. Salt is highly acidifying and contributes to the acidification of our bodies.
- Drink at least 1.5 liters of water per day (mineral water, sparkling water, herbal infusions, ...). Hydration facilitates the elimination of acid load.

You now know all about this famous acid-alkaline balance! Are you ready to change your plate?
